The Social Studies Task Force's recommended curriculum, resources, and professional development plan will follow these steps:


  1. Recommendations reviewed by Social Studies and Humanities Teachers
  2. Recommendations forwarded by Social Studies Task Force to Admin Team
  3. Admin Team adopts (editorial modifications possible); forwarded back to Social Studies and Humanities Task Force if notable changes in intent or content.
  4. Ed Programs Office shares adopted curriculum Highlights with Student Programs Committee & School Board
  5. Ed Programs announces new curriculum adoption for subsequent year (e.g., Fall 2011).

  • Getting Started
    • aligning implemented curriculum to new benchmarks
    • piloting cornerstone units
    • documenting "choice" units of study
    • experimenting with new content/themes, supported by recommended Professional Development
    • reconvene task force (once) for revisions as recommended by team/department leaders or principals
  • Progressing
    • all of the above
    • Departmental analysis of implemented curriculum, supported by Curriculum Director
    • further experimenting of additional content/themes, supported by recommended Professional Development
  • Implementing (full implementation of curriculum and cornerstone assessments)
  • Mid-Point Review
    • PK-12 curricular analysis; adaptation as needed
    • Evaluation of primary resources for efficacy and relevance, adaptations as needed
